What is water and what are electrolytes?

Water is the fundamental substance for all living organisms. It is a clear liquid, which lacks flavor, color and odor. Its chemical composition is widely known as H20, and it is the main substance used to make rehydration drinks, since, in addition to having two molecules of hydrogen and one of oxygen, it can incorporate some other elements as electrolytes (although not naturally). Within these electrolytes we can find calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, chlorine, sodium, zinc and potassium.

Electrolytes are minerals present in the blood and in the cells of the human body, which can be provided by liquids, hydrating drinks (isotonic) and food that we consume. For their part, electrolytes act beneficially on various biological functions within the body, maintaining its balance, regulating temperature, promoting the normal secretion of certain hormones, among others.

How much water do we need per day?

Water is a natural liquid, whose raw composition of elements that are beneficial for the proper functioning of the human body. Its importance is so great because water makes up most of the body weight of the organism, in a healthy adult water is present in more than 65%. Likewise, water and electrolytes are essential substances to carry out the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. In the same sense, water and electrolytes participate in reactions such as maintaining temperature, muscle contraction, among other essential functions.
